Carl Damron
Mr. Carl Damron, 93, of Rochester, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 4:30 a.m., Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Life Care Center of Rochester.
In Prestonsburg, Ky. on Jan. 2, 1926, Carl Damron was the first born of Bert and Audie Howard Damron. He was the leader and oldest of the 14 Damron children. Carl moved to Rochester from Kentucky in 1941.
On March 14, 1944, he married the love of his life Miss Rachel Bumgardner in Rochester. They shared nearly 71 years of life’s adventures. From their union came two handsome sons Earl and Rodney. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.
Growing up in the early years of the “Great Depression,” he established a strong work ethic. He was a general supervisor at Bremen Castings for 35 years. In addition, he worked for 12 years at Lakeside Foundry in Warsaw and Rochester Metal Products for four years.
Skilled with a vast amount of knowledge in carpentry, in 1947, he built a custom home for his family at the present location. Over the years he built an addition each decade to accommodate his family’s growing needs. When he ascended to the fifth decade he hired out for some carpentry help to assist with employing his thoughts. Mr. Damron and his family enjoyed their home making memories for over 72 years.
He was a member of the Rochester Church of the Nazarene for nearly 75 years. To relax he enjoyed fishing, hunting, flower gardening and bowling. As the patriarch of the Damron family he was proud to oversee his legacy of four generations. He loved getting together with his family for special celebrations and the holidays making wonderful memories of a lifetime.
Left to cherish Carl’s memory are two sons, Earl Dean Damron and wife Paula of North Manchester, Rodney Eugene Damron of North Aurora, Ill.; five grandchildren: Eric, Christopher, Keith David and Beth; ten great-grandchildren, Madie, Sarah, Jillian, Erin, Josiah, Alexis and Alex, Courtney, Morgan, Karl and expecting Daniel to arrive in September; numerous great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dottie Hutchison and husband John, Lottie Smoker and husband Ed, Ellen Conley and husband Jim, Sue Shuey and husband Marty and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Carl in death are his parents Bert and Audie Damron, beloved wife Rachel on January 20, 2015, grandson Harold Damron, three sisters, Judy Croussore, Ann Lewis, Beatrice Gilliland, six Damron brothers, Dewey, Johnnie, Berle, Luther and 2 in infancy.
