TIPPECANOE VALLEY 13, ARGOS 6
Tippecanoe Valley closed out the regular seasons witha win over host Argos Monday night.
Layne Prater and Russ Paxton both went 4-for-4 to lead an 18-hit Valley team at the plate, and Tanner Trippiedi, Wes Melanson and Payton Mills all added multiple hits for the Vikings.
Ethan Yates got the pitching win, giving up eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts for three earned runs over five innings of work. D.J. Estep pitched an inning surrendering four hits for two earned runs, and Paxton closed it out with a shutout seventh.
Valley moves to 10-9 and will play Fairfield in the first round of Sectional 21 play Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
ELKHART CENTRAL 3, WARSAW 2
The Warsaw Tigers lost the lead late in the game and couldn’t recover in a loss to Elkhart Central on Monday at Tiger Field.
Warsaw got on the board in the first inning when Noah Burgh singled home Lukas Maier to go ahead 1-0. However, Elkhart Central would answer with a run in the top of the third inning, and then go ahead 2-1 with another run in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers would tie the game 2-2 when Jacob Hutcherson singled to score Matt Shoemaker. The Blazers would push another run home in the top of the seventh inning to go ahead 3-2, and the Tigers could not answer again.
Mason Reber started the game for Warsaw and threw four complete innings. He gave up one run, two hits and struck out one. Drake Graham came in relief and threw three complete innings, giving up two runs on one hit and three strikeouts.
The Tigers were led offensively by Liam Patton (2-for-4), Burgh (2-for-3, RBI), and Hutcherson (1-for-1, RBI). The Tigers close the regular season at 11-16. They will face Concord in the first round of Elkhart Memorial Sectional play Thursday in the late game following the 5 p.m. opener.
