Carmel Manns
Carmel Manns, 90, rural Akron, passed at 5:40 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2019, at his residence.
He married on June 11, 1948 in Salyersville, Ky., to Opal Smith, who survives.
Carmel worked for General Tire of Wabash for 22 years. He also owned Manns & Sons Garage in Akron, and retired from Da-Lite Screen of Warsaw. After retiring he worked at Craig Welding of Mentone.
He was a member of Sweetwater Assembly of God of North Manchester. He enjoyed hunting, horses and cattle on the farm. He was known as an ornery joker with family and friends. He also enjoyed Southern Gospel music.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Manns, Akron; daughters, Connie and husband John Malott, Akron, and Vickie and husband Rodney Whitaker, Akron;
sons: Darrel Manns, Akron, and Doug and wife Joanna Manns, Akron; grandchildren: Christopher, Joshua, Sarah, Matthew, Jennifer, Lori, Logan, Jessica, Wesley, Kiley and Teri; 33 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell and Gracie Manns; brothers, Oscar and Bradie; an infant sister, Chelsea; and sister-in-laws: Oma and Loretta.
The service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2019, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Jeremy Jones officiating. Burial will be at Silver Creek Cemetery, Silver Lake. Visitation hours are from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
