Softball Results: May 17
NORTHWOOD 12, TRITON 1
A 12-run lead after two innings was all it took for NorthWood to get a big win at Triton Friday afternoon.
NorthWood had four of its first five hitters reach in the first inning, and had three RBI doubles and three RBI singles in the second inning to pour it on. Gracie Clark had three hits and Brooklyn Troyer drove in three to pace the Panther attack.
Clark and Madison Miller combined on a four-hitter, striking out eight. Triton’s only run scored on the final play of the game.
NorthWood (10-14) will host its sectional and play Monday against Culver Academy while Triton (3-17) also hosts and gets South Central on Tuesday.
WARSAW 5, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 4
Warsaw led by four in the sixth, but had to dig in to fend off Tippy.
Courtney Chookie and Izzy DIttmar each drove in a pair and Lindsey Bradley added an RBI to put Warsaw up 5-1 heading into the sixth inning. But Valley clawed back a run on an Alex Gomez double, then had Sydney Howard double home two runs in the seventh. Chookie would then get Brayden Baney to pop out to end the threat.
Chookie struck out six to get the win while Mayde Fear was on the hook for all five Warsaw runs.
Warsaw (7-18) visits Manchester Saturday morning to wrap up its regular season while Valley (5-17) prepares for West Noble Monday in the opening round of the Lakeland Sectional.
BREMEN 4, WAWASEE 2
Wawasee kept pace with Class 2-A No. 1 Bremen, but couldn’t come up with enough mustard to pull off the upset.
Bremen jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, then added solo runs in the third and fourth to take a 4-1 advantage and hold on for the win.
Rylee Hershberger homered, doubled twice and scored a pair of runs to lead the Lion attack. McKenna Myers and Catlin Traxler added two hits and Erin Coffel was held homerless, but did double in a run. Coffel is third in the state per MaxPreps with 14 homers.
Wawasee scored its two runs on an error and a steal of home.
Traxler gave up five hits and five walks to Wawasee, but retired the Warriors in order the final two innings. Beth Flannery worked all six innings for Wawasee, touched up for 11 hits.
Wawasee (14-10) will take on Lakeland Tuesday night at the Lakeland Sectional.
