UPDATE — Man Dies From Injuries Sustained In Bike-Train Accident
WARSAW — A man who rode his bicycle into a north-southbound train on April 30 has died of his injuries.
Ronald R. Spaulding, Jr., 53, died in Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital, where he was transported after the accident.
According to a press release from the WPD, Spaulding was observed by witnesses pulling out of a gravel lot on his blue bicycle just west of the tracks. The report said witnesses saw Spaulding attempt to cross the tracks before the train reached Winona Avenue.
Witnesses also told police the train’s horn was blowing, the signal was flashing, and the bell was ringing. Spaulding was said to have ridden his bicycle into the side of the train, falling to the ground on the west side of the tracks. He was found to be conscious and breathing.
