Sadler Donates To Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids Of Michigan
KOSCIUSKO — Derek Sadler, vice-president of McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, with the help of Kelly Warner from Hair by Kelly Warner, has made a hair donation to Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan.
In doing so, he has also organized a fundraising campaign with a goal to reach $800, which is the amount of money it takes to produce one wig for a child. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel kicked off this fundraising campaign with a donation of $100. The fundraiser has raised a total of $895 thus far; donations are being accepted on Facebook. See Derek Sadler’s or McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel’s Facebook page to donate. Donations for this campaign will be accepted through June 1, though the charity is always accepting and in need of monetary donations to make these wigs available for children in need.
Sadler and Warner agree that one of the many reasons that this organization is so wonderful is that at Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan, no child is turned away and no family ever pays. Since 2003, thanks to the kindness and generosity of the community, Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan has changed the lives of over 4,500 children in need. The charity can accept hair donations as short as seven inches, though they prefer donations of 10 inches of length or more. It takes anywhere between 10 to 14 hair donations to crease one wig for a child in need.
“Anyone looking to donate their hair to Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan is more than welcome to contact me for a free donation cut,” said Warner. Warner is a local destination stylist and can be found on Facebook at Hair by Kelly Warner or at her e-mail address at [email protected].
“I am overwhelmed with the generosity and donations that have been raised thus far for this charitable endeavor,” said Sadler. “This charity is near and dear to my heart for all those children struggling with life-threatening illnesses. Helping them to feel a little more secure and confident in their appearance is such a beautiful cause. I urge anyone who is looking to donate hair to such a noble cause to contact Kelly Warner. Kids need to have a sense of belonging; they need to fit in and be accepted by their peers. Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids helps kids deal with appearance-related issues and social acceptance, which are so critical to young adults and children.”
Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids Wellness Center and Salon is a local grassroots non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides wigs and support services at no charge to children and young adults experiencing hair loss due to cancer, alopecia, trichotillomania, burns and other disorders. Wig recipients, also known as ambassadors, range in age from three to 18, and are located throughout Michigan.
Every wig provided is custom-fitted, age-appropriate, and individually cut and styled as requested by a child or teenager to help them feel comfortable and confident. Staff and a team of volunteers know hair loss can be devastating for young patients. Many of them may struggle with the emotional, social and psychological side effects of their disorder.
That’s why the program is committed to helping children cope by offering medical and educational support services at no cost to families. The program is conveniently located inside the Wellness Center in St. Clair Shores and all services are funded solely through contributions made by caring individuals, companies and organizations.
