UPDATE — Woman Transported To Fort Wayne Hospital After Vehicle-Pedestrian Accident
WARSAW — A woman was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital after being struck by a vehicle on US 30.
At approximately 3:53 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, a female pedestrian was injured in a single-vehicle accident on US 30, east of Springhill Road in Warsaw.
The crash involved a 2019 Cadillac Escalade, operated by David R. Murdock, 69, South Wallace Street, Chicago, Ill.
Murdock was traveling west on US 30 when a passenger in his vehicle, identified as Melissa A. Muhammad, 48, Merrillville, exited the vehicle and started walking eastbound on the shoulder of US 30.
Murdock followed Muhammad in his vehicle and told officers he was trying to get her back into the vehicle, but Muhammad refused to do so. As Murdock was backing his vehicle and trying to drive next to her, Muhammad began walking eastbound and the passenger side rear corner of Murdock’s vehicle struck Muhammad.
Muhammad was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for a neck injury sustained after being struck by Murdock’s vehicle.
Damages are estimated at up to $2,500.
