WAWASEE 6, WARSAW 5
Wawasee built a 6-1 lead and had to hang on to defeat its Northern Lakes Conference rivals Saturday afternoon.
Wawasee used a two-run double from Olivia Stuck and solo RBIs from Delaney Hare, Abi Smith, Grace Allen and Kiaundra Olson to build its lead.
Warsaw managed just a Katie Anderson RBI until the sixth, when it found its offense. Four consecutive singles, the third by Courtney Chookie, got Warsaw a run. A pair of runs came in on a fielder’s choice plus an error, then a double from Hailey Locke drove in a run, suddenly putting the score 6-5.
Warsaw would get the tying run into scoring position in the bottom of the seventh, but Olson would get out of it with a fly out and ground out.
Olson allowed 10 hits and struck out six for the win, outdueling Chookie, who gave up 11 hits and struck out six.
The game was played at Elkhart Memorial to accommodate poor field conditions in Warsaw.
Wawasee (10-8, 6-3 NLC) battles NorthWood Monday while Warsaw (4-13, 2-7 NLC) entertains Plymouth also on Monday.
CONCORD 11, WAWASEE 1
Yadi Gomez was a one-woman wrecking crew for Concord in its dismantling of Wawasee in the morning game in Dunlap.
Gomez hit two homers and drove in five for the Minutemen. Gomez had four hits on the day and scored three runs.
Alysa Marcin and Madison Loge also kept the line moving for Concord, both with three hits and a combined four runs scored. Marcin drove in three runs.
Alexis Kern scattered six hits and struck out four in the five-inning contest.
Olson drove in the only Wawasee run, and was tattooed in the circle, giving up 18 hits in the morning opener.
ELKHART MEMORIAL 10, WARSAW 9
A pair of four-run frames propelled Memorial to a NLC win over the Tigers in the morning game.
The Chargers plated four in the first then four more in the third, combined with a run in the second, rushed out to a 9-2 lead. Warsaw would get back in it with six runs in the fourth, highlighted by a Lindsey Bradley grand slam. A Chookie double brought in Bradley in the sixth to tie the game at nine, but a double by Amber Asher to open the bottom of the seventh, followed by a Taylor Rohm single allowed Memorial to walk off with the win.
Shelby Buss and Gabby Moore both homered for Memorial while Hannah Goldsborough had two hits and three RBIs.
Bradley, Chookie, Locke and Izzy Dittmar all had two hits for the Tigers, Bradley crossed home three times.
Moore picked up the win for Memorial while Kennedy Tennant took the loss for Warsaw.
