WAWASEE 16, ELKHART MEMORIAL 1
Wawasee brought their live bats to the yard Friday in its home contest with Memorial.
Delaney Hare thumped a pair of homers, and Abi Smith, Beth Flannery and Olivia Stuck also cranked homers as Wawasee piled up eight extra base hits in the five-inning contest.
Hare drove in four runs while Stuck, Flannery, Smith and Graceanne Kerlin all drove in three. Smith had four hits overall and led the Warriors with three runs scored.
Kiaundra Olson was incredibly effective, throwing 52 of 62 pitches for strikes, allowing just four hits and no earned runs in five innings of work.
Wawasee (9-7, 5-2 NLC) will have a unique doubleheader Saturday. Wawasee will take on Concord at Concord at 10 a.m., then get on the bus and drive to Memorial to face Warsaw at 1 p.m.
MANCHESTER 8, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 5
Valley spotted Manchester an early lead it couldn’t match in a Three Rivers Conference battle Friday afternoon in Akron.
Manchester built a 7-0 lead, scoring at least a run in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings before Valley could respond. Kirstyn Yoder had a big hit for the Vikings, a bases-clearing double to get three runs back in the fifth. Sydney Howard added an RBI in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Squires.
Mayde Fear went the distance for the Vikings, allowing just two earned runs in the circle.
Valley (3-10, 0-4 TRC) visit bitter rival Rochester Monday.
GOSHEN 4, WARSAW 1
An early homer gave Goshen the boost it needed for the road NLC win.
Ashton Darnell’s two-run homer in the first inning got the RedHawks off to a great start. A pair of Warsaw errors in the fourth and fifth gave Goshen a 4-0 lead, and the Tigers only responded with a solo run in the seventh. Warsaw got its run on an error with the bases loaded, but left the bags full when Brynn Shoup-Hill got out of the jam with a fly ball to end it.
Shoup-Hill allowed four hits and struck out eight for Goshen while counterpart Courtney Chookie pitched well, giving up four hits and fanning seven.
Despite three hits apiece from Megan McKenzie and Reggan Meadows, the Warsaw JV couldn’t hold off Goshen in a 11-9 loss.
Warsaw (4-11, 2-5 NLC) will visit Elkhart Memorial for a 10 a.m. game, then take on Wawasee in a doubleheader at Memorial at 1 p.m.
NORTHRIDGE 7, NORTHWOOD 6
NorthWood had the NLC leaders on the ropes, but couldn’t fend off the Raiders in a walk-off finish in Middlebury.
A two-run homer from Morgan Jenkins and then a run on an error had NorthWood leading 6-3 in the sixth. Ridge would respond with a bases loaded walk and then a two-run offering from Ashley Beckler to knot the game at six. The Raiders would load the bases, and with two outs, Madison Wienart put a ball in play Wood couldn’t handle to bring in the winning run.
Jenkins had a huge game for NorthWood, rapping four hits and driving in three. Kylie Thornton reached base three times and Kennedy Hochstetler added an RBI and run scored.
Beckler wound up with three RBIs and Sam Mathews had three hits and a run scored for the Raiders, which stay unbeaten in NLC play at 7-0.
Allison Hostetler went the distance for Ridge, striking out six while Madison Miller shouldered the loss, allowing five runs in 5.2 innings of relief work.
NorthWood (7-10, 2-6 NLC) take on Wawasee Monday.
