WARSAW — At a brief Oakwood Board of Regents meeting held Thursday, May 2, Oakwood Sexton Hal Heagy started off by stating that a replacement has not yet been selected for former Board Member Dave Baumgartner, who resigned in March.
A second foundation pour is ready to be done as soon as weather permits, and Heagy said half of the graves that need to be sodded have been completed. New trees have been planted at the cemetery as well.
Bradford Outdoor Creations, Warsaw, is working on phase 2 of the retaining wall near cemetery section 57, and Custom Fencing, Warsaw, will be installing new fencing behind the cemetery office.
Heagy said a site will need to be chosen for a new Babyland location in the cemetery because the north Babyland area is almost full.
The time for planting flowers is near, said Heagy, who stated they try to stay local when purchasing items for the cemetery. Heagy said he recently checked out flats of flowers at the garden center at Sherman & Lin’s Discount Grocery and Bargain Barn on Winona Avenue. According to Heagy, the owners of the garden center have offered to donate their time and plant flowers at the Oakwood Cemetery cremation garden.
- Oakwood has a position open for a full-time cemetery employee.
- Heagy is still considering purchase of a dump truck but is having difficulty finding the desired size in the designated price range.
- Due to the first Thursday in July being a holiday, the July Oakwood Board of Regents meeting will be held on Thursday, July 11.
- Due to remodeling work done at the office, the June meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at the Oakwood Cemetery office to give board members an opportunity to see the updates.
