NORTHWOOD 4, WAWASEE 1
NorthWood wrapped up at least third place in the Northern Lakes Conference round robin with a win over Wawasee Thursday at the Warsaw Racquet Club.
All three of its singles courts were winners for the Panthers, paced by a two and two win from Gretchen Adams over Elizabeth Kleopfer. Alex Jesse steadied the course for a four and one win against Peyton Rookstool and Reegan Miller held on for a quality 6-2, 7-5 win against Kendra Doerr.
The duo of Caroline Mullet and Kate Stillson took care of business in a one and two victory over Tate Cowan and Abby Morehead.
Wawasee’s court tally came from Molly Jones and Kaitlyn Graber, which posted a two and one win over Paige Henschen and Lauren Mikel.
NorthWood concludes NLC play at 5-2 heading into the conference tourney next Wednesday. Wawasee (1-4) still has dual matches against Elkhart Memorial and Plymouth to go.
WARSAW 5, CULVER ACADEMY 0
Warsaw rallied from a tough loss Wednesday to pick up a quality win Thursday against its regional rivals.
The hosts of the tennis regional couldn’t crack the Tigers as Warsaw won all five courts, the singles courts all in straight sets. Alyssa Zellers bested Lila Rosique three and three at No. 1, while Taylor Shoaf did it one better in a three and two result over Anna Mareno. Rachel Boyle was a tick better, taking out Val Hsu three and one.
Amy Herendeen and Maddie Ray continued their strong play with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 win over Anaia Johnson and Anna Paola Mendoza. At one doubles, Rachel Yeager and Raegan Merchant went deep, but took out Margaret Davidson and Ava Kite 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) to cap the sweep.
Warsaw took four of the six JV courts. Anastasia Kalikova won a singles court while all three of the doubles matches went to the Tigers.
Warsaw (6-4, 3-3 NLC) wraps up its NLC round robin Monday against Goshen.
