LEO 5, WARSAW 2
LEO 9, WARSAW 8
Two runs in the first inning were not enough as the Warsaw Tigers lost the first game of a doubleheader at Leo, 5-2, Saturday. Ian Glogovsky, Liam Patton, Matt Shoemaker, Jacob Hutcherson, Aaron Greene and Josh Ehrlinger all had one hit for the Tigers.
Mason Reber took the loss for the Tigers. He gave up four runs — although only one was earned — and struck out three.
In the second game, the Tigers gave up three runs in the first inning of the game but were able to tie it up 3-3 in the top of the second courtesy of two Leo errors, a sacrifice bunt from Tyler Hitchcock and a Glogovsky single.
Leo would add three more in the bottom of the second to go ahead 6-3, but the Tigers were not done scoring. Warsaw would plate five runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a three-run home run from Matt Shoemaker and go ahead 8-6. That lead would hold until the bottom of the seventh inning, when Leo scored three runs to win, 9-8.
Glogovsky and Liam Patton each had two hits for the Tigers, who are in action next Monday at home versus the Elkhart Memorial Crimson Chargers.
GOSHEN 12, GRACE 2
In the home finale, Grace’s baseball team suffered a 12-2 defeat to Goshen on Saturday.
The nine-inning game was moved up to 10 a.m. to avoid the oncoming storm, and the contest was completed mere minutes before the rain started pouring.
The teams split a doubleheader on Friday night, but Goshen clinched the series with its win on Saturday. The Maple Leafs also secured the No. 7 seed in next week’s Crossroads League Tournament, while the Lancers (14-25, 10-17 CL) will be the No. 8 seed.
Grace is competing in the CL Tournament for the first time since 2014. More information on next week’s schedule will be available in the coming days.
The Maple Leafs (18-27, 12-15 CL) were dominant at the plate on Saturday morning. Goshen pounded out four home runs and held a 15-7 advantage in hits.
Grace was only able to score in one inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Mitchell Enyart led off with a single, and Ethan Brooks tripled to bring him in. On the next at-bat, Sam Newkirk hit a deep fly ball to allow Brooks to race home.
Goshen scored in every inning from the second to the sixth, a stretch which accounted for 10 of their 12 runs.
Aaron Voirol threw the first 4 1/3 innings from the mound, and Joey Peebles tossed the final 4 2/3 innings.
Enyart hit 2-for-3 with a run, Brooks was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Wyatt Buzbee hit 1-for-2 off the bench.
