KOSCIUSKO — Three individuals from Chicago were arrested after officers conducted a traffic stop and found cocaine in a vehicle.
Arahzad Yasmina Robinson, 24, 2425 W. 45th St.; Gabriel Calvillo, 18, 4405 S. Wood St., Apt. 2R; and Rafael Alonzo Godinez, 28, 2425 W. 45th St., all of Chicago, Ill.; are each charged with possession of cocaine, a level 6 felony.
On April 13, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle exceeding the speed limit on US 30 in the area of East Van Ness Road.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Godinez, the front seat passenger as Robinson and the rear seat passenger as Calvillo. According to the affidavit of probable cause, the officer used his K9 partner to conduct an outer air search of the vehicle and the K9 made a positive alert.
While searching the vehicle, officers found alcoholic beverages, a vape pen and a folded dollar bill. Inside the dollar bill, officers found a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.
While speaking with the subjects, Calvillo began telling Robinson and Godinez that they knew the cocaine belonged to them. Godinez then began speaking Spanish to Calvillo. The officer, who speaks Spanish, advised that Godinez was telling Calvillo to keep his mouth shut.
All three subjects have already been arrested and released on their own recognizance. An initial hearing date for all three has been set for 8:15 a.m. May 2, in Kosciusko Circuit Court.
