Leticia Ann Carter
Letitia Ann “Tish” Carter, 83, Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 6:45 AM on Thursday, April 18, 2019, in her home at Wynnfield Crossing.
She was born Letitia Ann Hite in Greentown, Nov. 19, 1935. She was the daughter of Wayne and Leota (Miller) Hite. Growing up, she shared her childhood with three sisters and three brothers. In 1953 she graduated from Eastern High School in Howard County.
On Aug. 11, 1957, she married Everett Dale Carter, the love of her life, at the Main Street Methodist Church in Kokomo. They shared almost 62 years of marriage and life together, having four children, a son and three daughters. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.
For many years, she attended the First Baptist Church in Galveston. More recently she attended Whippoorwill Church in Richland Township.
Talented in quilting, she created many gifts of warmth for her family and lovingly crafted beautiful quilts for each grandchild that are treasured by each of them today. In addition to her family, she created colorful lap quilts for nursing home residents. She was a gifted seamstress as well. She also loved planting and working in her flower gardens, especially her butterfly gardens, which all added color and beauty to her home.
Family was her greatest delight and she was the heart of hers. She tenderly and devotedly watched over her legacy. There was nothing better than getting together for family celebrations and making memories. Family is where her heart was and she was always there for each of them.
Left to cherish Tish Carter’s memory are her husband Dale; son, Joseph Carter and wife Margie; three daughters, Susan Sewell and husband Brian, Debbie Henke and husband Bob, Cheryl Nichols and husband Jeremy; eight grandchildren: Mark Carter, Laura Hoos and husband Rob, Kreg Carter, Bethany Sewell, Nathan Sewell, Benjamin Wallace, Sarah Wallace, and Jacob Wallace; and three great-grandchildren, Abigail, Cora Ann, and Everett; three sisters, Phyllis Boling, Pamela Mullen, Sylvia DuBose; and two brothers, Max Hite and Philip Hite; plus several nieces and nephews.
