TIPPECANOE VALLEY VIKINGS 83, WHITKO 71, NORTH MIAMI 3
Tippecanoe Valley’s boys track and field team earned a pair of Three Rivers Conference wins over Whitko and North Miami at home in Akron Tuesday.
The Vikings dominated the field events with four first-place finishes and a clean sweep in the long jump. Alex Mikel collected several firsts, winning the long jump (17’11”), the 400 (54.93) and as part of Valley’s winning 4×100 relay (46.96). Freshman Rex Kirchenstein had strong finishes in the sprints, joining Mikel on the winning 400 relay, taking first in the 200 (24.00) and placing third in the 100. Matthew Howes won the 1600-meter run (5:04.8), Wes Melanson collected top honors in the shot put (42’8”), and the Vikings earned other firsts in the 3200 and pole vault.
Valley will host Manchester in a TRC dual Thursday.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY LADY VIKINGS 64, WHITKO 60, NORTH MIAMI 24
The Lady Vikings edged out Whitko on the way to a pair of Three Rivers Conference wins in a three-way meet at home.
Sarah Tucker shined in the sprints, taking first in both the 100 (13.64), the 200 (30.09) and as the anchor for the team’s winning 4×100 relay (55.94). Sidney Wagner won all four of her events with top finishes in the pole vault (6’0”), the long jump (13’9 1/2”) and as a member of both the winning 4×100 and 4×400 (4:37.03).
Valley hosts Manchester in more TRC action Thursday.
CULVER MILITARY ACADEMY 87, TRITON 45
Triton track opened its season with a loss to Culver Military Academy Tuesday.
The Trojans swept the shot put, with Connor Ousley taking first (43’6”) and Travis McCoy and Nate Amsden finishing second and third, respectively. Triton also went one-two in the long jump, Hunter McIntyre setting the standard (16’ 5 1/4”) and Jesse Paige placing second. Josiah Paige won both the 800 meters (2:35) and the 1600 (5:35), and Breighton Treesh placed second in the 800. Parker Alford won the high jump (5’4”).
Triton will travel to a three-way Hoosier North Athletic Conference meet with Winamac and Culver Thursday.
CULVER GIRLS ACADEMY 96, LADY TROJANS 36
The Lady Trojans fell in their season-opener with Culver Girls Academy Tuesday.
Triton’s girls fared best in the jumping events, with one-two finishes in each. Sydney Stotler was first in the long jump (13’ 5 3/4”), followed by Makenna May, while Anela Hill placed first in the high jump (4’8”), followed by Abbey Viers. May also finished first in the 800 (2:50), while Viers was second in both the shot put and the discus. Jaela Faulkner finished second in the 400 meters and the pole vault.
Triton will be back in action on the road Thursday, in a three-way Hoosier North Athletic Conference meet with Winamac and Culver.
WARSAW LADY TIGERS 89, NORTHRIDGE 43; WARSAW 107, GOSHEN 25; NORTHRIDGE 93, GOSHEN 39
Warsaw’s girls track and field team opened the outdoor season with a pair of wins over Northern Lakes Conference foes Northridge and Goshen Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers went one-three in the high jump, two-three in the long jump, one-three in shot put, three-five in discus and one-three in pole vault. Warsaw collected top honors in two of the relays — the 4×800 and 4×400 — and finished second in the 4×100. The Tigers also went two-four in the 100 hurdles, one through five in the 1600 meters, two-three in the 400, one-three in the 800 and one-four in the 3200.
Complete results were unavailable for the meet.
Warsaw’s boys will open their season Thursday at home versus Memorial. The boys and girls will both be in action Saturday at the Franklin and Lafayette Jefferson showcases.
