William E. Thompson
William E. “Bill” Thompson, 87, Wakarusa, (formerly of Leesburg) passed away at 11 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019, at Miller’s Merry Manor Assisted Living in Wakarusa. He was born on Sept. 8, 1931, in Wolf Lake to Ira James and Reuah (Boggs) Thompson.
He graduated in 1951 from Wolf Lake High School, was a United States Army veteran, and attended Dana University to receive his Certified Manager Degree. He was married on June 1, 1958, in LaPorte, to Mary Jane Moore who preceded him on Aug. 27, 2016. He moved to Leesburg area in 1963 from Kimmell and Wolf Lake, area and retired in 1993 as a Purchasing Agent from Dana Corporation after 41 years of service.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oswego and American Legion Post 253 in North Webster. He was a former Boy Scout Leader in North Webster and then was the District Training Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Boy Scouts for Kosciusko County.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie (Jeff) Kaiser, Albion; two sons: Alan (Julia) Thompson, Wakarusa; James (Nancy) Thompson, Novi, Mich.; six grandchildren: Ryan Thompson, Jon Thompson, Maggie Kaiser, Katie Thompson, Amy Thompson, and Will Kaiser.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six sisters: Mary Thompson, Lillian Swanson, Dora Braden, Lena Kiester, Grace Buckles, and Betty Kilgore, and a brother – John Coverstone.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, April, 11, at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500N, North Webster. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 12, in the funeral home with Pastor Ron Manahan officiating. Burial will follow in the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery.
