Knox Outduels Triton Tennis
BOURBON – A precursor of what could be to come was played out Monday as Triton and Knox went deep in Hoosier North Athletic Conference tennis.
Knox won the matchup 3-2 with three of the five courts going to three sets and another playing into a tiebreaker.
The only straight set court without bonus tennis was at one singles, where Knox’s Madison Land dropped Molly McFarland two and love. Two doubles was also a Knox winner in straight sets, but Joie Gremer and Paige Byer needed a tiebreaker to win the first set, 7-6, then took care of matters at 6-2 in the second set over Haley Hooley and Madison Davis.
Emma Binkley had the third Knox win, going 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 over Ivy Powell at No. 3.
Triton’s two court wins came at No. 2 singles, a 6-3, 0-6, 6-0 flipper from Maddie Ritchison over Maddie Kruger, and then at No. 1 doubles, where Emma Hepler and Lexia Hostrawser finished off Hailey Thompson and Carissa Kulpa 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-4.
JV courts had Triton take just one of four matchups, that coming from Sadie Barber in a 6-4 win. Barber also lost a dual, as did Lilly Hubert in singles play and the two dropped a doubles pairing.
Triton (0-2, 0-2 HNAC) hosts Tippecanoe Valley on Wednesday.
