Grace continued to struggle in the Crossroads League, dropping a pair Friday afternoon at St. Francis.
Breanna Pryor became the all-time hits leader in St. Francis softball history, gathering five hits in the doubleheader to sit at 211 for her illustrious career. Lizzie Meyer also broke the 200-hit plateau during the two games, her four hits in the two games putting her at 200.
Meyer was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the game one win, with Pryor adding two hits and an RBI. Elandra Shafer doubled and tripled and came home both times, and Taylor Tucker homered and drove in two for the Cougars (15-14, 6-8 CL).
Morgan Tapscott had a homer and two driven in for Grace while Sam Heim added three hits and two RBIs in game one.
Hannah Middlebrooks again struggled in the circle, giving up all seven runs in five innings, allowing 10 of the 11 St. Francis hits. Morgen Carroll didn’t allow a run in her five innings in the circle, striking out four.
In game two, an Ashleigh Morrow RBI groundout and a Grace fielding error allowed St. Francis to grab a four-run lead and not look back. Jade Mollenkopf tripled and scored on a Morrow groundout in the second and Pryor doubled and scored on a Meyer single in the first.
Heim had a double in just three hits for Grace in the shutout loss. Heim took the loss in the circle, working just two innings and allowing two runs. Aries Petty twirled the shutout, walking six and striking out three.
Grace (7-21, 3-13 CL) returns to action Saturday with a home doubleheader against Bethel.
ROCHESTER 21, TRITON 1
Rochester spotted itself a 17-run cushion in the runaway game Friday that was a make-up from Monday’s original season opener for the Trojans.
Triton again couldn’t keep the opponent off the scoreboard, now having allowed 34 runs in two games this week to start the season.
Charlie Pocock, Carly Beehler and Mya Musselman all had three RBIs, Macy Brown had three hits and five runs scored, and five other Zebras scored a pair of runs.
Musselman pitched three innings to get the win for the Zebras in its season opener, striking out four. Lauren Snyder had the only Triton hit and Madeline Doll scored the only visiting run.
Triton (0-2) takes on Argos Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
