M & M Boys Both First-Team All-Americans
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It’s been a fantastic year for a pair of former teammates. The NAIA put them back together once again, as Paul Marandet and Kyle Mangas were both named Men’s Basketball First Team All-Americans.
Marandet, a junior guard for Spring Arbor, and Mangas, a sophomore guard for Indiana Wesleyan, were both honored Friday by the NAIA. The two were teammates at Warsaw Community High School, pairing up as a formidable duo that took the 2015 Tigers to the semi-state.
Marandet, earning his first First Team All-American honor, is coming off being named the Most Outstanding Player after leading Spring Arbor to its first-ever men’s basketball national championship last week. The point guard for the Cougars averaged 16.4 points per game and accumulated 254 assists and 123 rebounds this season. Marandet also shot 51 percent from the floor.
Mangas, the Crossroads League Player of the Year for the second straight year, also garners his second First-Team honor. Mangas ranked seventh in Division II in scoring at 23.6 points per game and added five rebounds and 3.8 assists a night. Mangas is the only repeat First Team All-American on this year’s list. Wesleyan reached the NAIA Final Four this season after winning the title in 2018.
Southwestern College’s Cameron Hunt was named NAIA National Player of the Year and headlines the First Team selections. Trevion Crews of Bethel and Wes Stowers of Marian were among the Second Team choices, and Reginald Kissoonlal of Marian, Jamie Johnson of Indiana Southeast and Evan Maxwell of IWU were Third Team picks.
Honorable Mention All-Americans included Logan Godfrey of Grace, Dylan Phair of Indiana Tech, Bishop Smith of IU East, Trequan Spivey of IU Kokomo, Brett Vipperman of Mount Vernon Nazarene and Brandon Durnell of Spring Arbor. Godfrey finished his Grace career Friday night in the NCCAA tournament, the senior pouring in 19.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
