John Arthur George Zumbaugh Cunningham
John Arthur George Zumbaugh Cunningham, 64, Rochester passed away at 8:19 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2019, at Visiting Nurse Hospice of Fort Wayne. He went peacefully in his sleep.
On April 15, 1954, he was born in Rochester. He later moved to Wisconsin and graduated from Ladysmith High School in Ladysmith Wisconsin with the Class of 1973.
Throughout his life he was a railroad worker, roofer, carpenter, property manager and most recently butcher who made the best bratwurst this side of the Mississippi. In his younger days, he found himself traveling often for work, but he spent the bulk of his life living in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and finally in Indiana. It’s no small wonder he was a lifelong Packers, Steelers and Colts fan.
He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father and a friend. He brightened every room with laughter and smiles. His wonderful voice filled the air with old country songs. He was honest and loyal. You couldn’t help but love the man. He is already sorely missed and he will always be remembered and loved. He adored his extended family, Linc and Lisa Townsend and Alissa Lowry.
Left to cherish John Cunningham’s memory are his son: Trevis J. Cunningham and wife Urarat Bamrungchca of Buncheon, Thailand; a grandson, a sister, Sharon Ann Simons of Rochester; a brother, Bruce Cunningham and wife Melodee of Palo, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding John Cunningham in death are his parents, Robert and Lena Cunningham and his birth parents, Larry Zumbaugh and May Cherry, as well as his dear sister, Tina Seidelmann on July 3, 2018.
A service and reception to honor the life of John Cunningham will be from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, March 17, at Safe Harbor Church, 1944 Sweetgum Road, Rochester. Pastor Matt Anderson will officiate.
