Area Teams Get Track Work In At New Haven
FORT WAYNE – There is still frost on the ground and wind chills approaching zero in northern Indiana, but the high school track season got underway over the weekend.
At the New Haven Indoor Invite at Purdue University Fort Wayne, athletes from Warsaw, Tippecanoe Valley and NorthWood all got in work in prep for the outdoor season in a few weeks. The work is part of the Hoosier State Relays qualifying event.
Times and measurements were scored per heat, with different classes of performer mixed into each heat.
For Warsaw, Makayla Clampitt won her heat of the 60-meter dash at 8.26, and teammates Jaslyn Brock and Baylee Duncan posted matching 8.87 times in their respective runs in the 60. The 4×200 relay clocked 1:53.08 to win its heat and the 4×400 relay was second. Marin Hart added a runner-up leap in the high jump, Sierra Davis went 32-10 to win her shot put group and Caitlin Kehler cleared 10-6 for tops in pole vault.
Tippecanoe Valley had Haley Hoover win her 60-meter hurdle heat at 11.75, and on the boys side, Alex Mikel cleared 18-2.5 in long jump and the 4×400 relay went 3:56.49 as part of its day.
NorthWood saw Garrett Anglemeyer throw the pill 45-4.5 to earn top marks in shot put, Landon Parker running 7.22 in the 60 dash, Bronson Yoder flying 22-1.25 in long jump and Garrett Miller go 9.31 in the 60-meter hurdles.
