Leota E. Long
Leota E. Long, 86, Cromwell, passed from this earth into the loving arms of her Savior at Avalon Village, Ligonier.
Known to many as “Chickie,” she was born to Theodore and Uteva Mowat in White Pigeon, Mich. She was the firstborn of five children; she is survived by Alice Johnson and was preceded in death by Theodore Mowat, Jr., Earlis Rex, and Lynne Douglas.
She is also survived by her beloved husband, Ralph Long, two daughters Leota (Neil) Walker & Monnie (David) Sheeley, stepdaughters Janet (Kent) Moser, Barb (Ron) Weber, & Linda (Hartzel) Carter. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and their spouses, 13 great-grandchildren, several of whom have spouses, and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by grandson Bryan Walker.
She spent most of her life living in either Goshen or Cromwell. She was a hardworking, driven woman, achieving managerial status in a time when it wasn’t common for women to hold such a position. She served at Penn Controls in Goshen and Sorg’s in Ligonier. Her final career was working in her husband’s auto-body repair shop as the office manager until they retired together in 1998. In her spare time, she loved to watch the birds from her window, spend time with her pets, complete puzzles with Ralph, read books, and paint ceramics. She loved the Lord, and she was a faithful member of the Millersburg Church of Christ.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28, at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier. The visitation will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service conducted by Minister Scott Saltzman at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Millersburg Church of Christ.
