LCA Can’t Find The Rabbit
FREMONT – The odds were long, and unfortunately for Lakeland Christian Academy, so was Wednesday night at the Class 1-A Fremont Sectional.
Fort Wayne Blackhawk, ranked No. 1 in the class, showed why it is acclaimed as such by smashing LCA 94-30.
Blackhawk wasted little time taking over, blowing out to a 26-7 lead in the first quarter and hanging 50 by halftime as LCA had no answer for the barrage. Frank Davidson had 11 points in the first quarter and Caleb Furst added 12 in the first half as the Braves rolled.
Blackhawk hit 13 threes in the game and 39 total field goals. Davidson ended with 21 points while Furst and Zane Burke each ended with 14 points and a combined 11 rebounds. Abe Hicks added 12 points and four rebounds.
LCA (10-14) concluded its season on a positive note.
Landon Twombly’s made three in the fourth quarter gave the team its 164th three-pointer of the season, a team record, and Jake Harmon’s splash later gave the team 165 for the season as its new shooting standard. Twombly finished with just the three points, but had five rebounds and five assists. Harmon ended his historic career at LCA with three more treys to finish with 87 threes this season and 222 for his career, leaving as the school’s all-time three-point shooter. Harmon had 12 points in his final game with LCA.
Braxton Keller ended his LCA run with six points and Landon Paris chipped in three points and four boards.
“I’m proud of our guys for the way they battled all season,” said LCA head coach Chris Hohm. “We finished with our heads held high and had a great time enjoying our last game.”
Fort Wayne Blackhawk (22-2) will meet Hamilton (5-17) in the second semi-final Friday at Fremont. The Marines pulled a mild upset by pulling out a 72-69 overtime win over Lakewood Park. Marko Stanojcic led all scorers with 28 points, Alex Thain had 20 points and Bailey Merritt 17 points. Caedmon Bontrager led LPC with 20 points and Cobin Moriarty added 18 points.
Game one Friday night will feature Fremont against Bethany Christian. The Bruins will honor its late teammate, KeShawn Smith, with a pregame memorium. Smith lost his life in a car crash last Saturday on a recruiting trip.
