WCS Middle Schoolers Serenade School Board
WARSAW — The Warsaw Community Schools’ board of trustees were serenaded by members of the school corporation’s band program during the panel’s regular monthly meeting Monday night, Feb. 18.
A solo by sixth-grade saxophonist Rick Orr, as well as an ensemble performance by seventh graders Marissa Howett on saxophone, Morgan Howett on flute, Keely Roe on clarinet and Jessica Holcomb on oboe, were part of a recognition of the recent performances by band members in and area contest.
Musicians from Edgewood and Lakeview middle schools recently performed at the Indiana State School Music Association solo and ensemble contest held at Carroll High School in Fort Wayne. During the contest, held Feb. 2, 15 Lakeview students earned gold medals, while 18 musicians from Edgewood earned gold medals. Three of those Edgewood musicians earned perfect scores.
During the meeting, Orr performed a song called “Culligan Man,” while the ensemble played a piece called “Noel Novlette.”
In other business, the board:
- Heard a presentation on Edgewood Middle School’s annual food drive from Principal Joella Hauselman, as well as teachers Zach Netzley, David Cook and Jason Culver.
- Acknowledged artwork presented in the administrative building created by students from Claypool Elementary School.
- Applauded the life-saving efforts of Edgewood Middle School student Milind Kumar.
- Heard a presentation from Chief Academic Officer Dr. David Robertson on the recent National Reading Recovery Conference.
- Heard a presentation from Robertson on the school corporation’s recent safety efforts.
- Received a presentation on World Class Instructional Design and Assessment testing from Chief Analytics Officer Shelly Wilfong.
- Received an update on Indiana legislation from Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert.
