Kenny Ray Hicks
Kenny Ray Hicks, 42, Cromwell, passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Feb. 19, 2019, at his home. He was born on April 23, 1976, the son of Raven Jr. and Omah (Poe) Hicks in Kendallville. On Aug. 30, 2003, he married Jessica Messer in Hagerstown.
Survivors include his wife, Jessica Hicks of Cromwell; their two children, Samuel Hicks and Emma Hicks, both at home; his parents, Raven and Omah Hicks Jr. of Ligonier; siblings, Charity (Juelio) Garcia of Wolf Lake; Penny (Mark McAndrews) Hicks of Rome City; and Tammy (Richard) Moorhouse of Albion; mother and father-in-law, Jeffrey and Linda Messer of Kimmell; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He graduated from West Noble High School in 1995 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army for six years. Following his time in the military he attended Northwestern Tech and graduated with a degree in auto mechanics. He worked as a certified mechanic at Shepherd’s Chevrolet, Buick, GMC in Kendallville and had been employed there since 2007. He loved spending time with his children and supporting them in whatever they did, from 4H to baseball, and the Boy Scouts.
A funeral service will be held in Kenny Hicks’ honor at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastors Dan Burnham and Todd Helmkamp will officiate. Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell where military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post 243 of Ligonier.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, at Yeager Funeral Home, and from noon until the time of the 1 p.m.service on Saturday.
