Helen H. Farringer
Helen H. Farringer, 91, North Manchester, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
She was born at Darke County, Ohio on Sept. 24, 1927, to Ralph B. and Mary (DeHoff) Halladay. Graduating from Greenville, Ohio High School in 1944 and Manchester College in 1948, she was a homemaker and for two years taught Home Economics while managing the school cafeteria at Franklin (Ohio) High School.
Later she was a billing clerk for Sears-Roebuck in Chicago, Ill. and after moving to North Manchester, she was an expert housekeeper for Timbercrest Senior Living Community. A member of Manchester Church of the Brethren, she taught Sunday School and was active in the College Woman’s Club.
She was an active and skilled hostess for many events. The Farringer’s pursued family history and genealogy. Starting from some cartons of accumulated family papers, they made visits to many libraries, courthouses, museums, cemeteries and other family history sites. Their Family Tree Maker database now includes some 9,400 names dating back as far as 1450 AD.
Helen and Dwight Farringer were married on Aug. 29, 1950, in the Poplar Grove Church of the Brethren, Greenville, Ohio. He survives at North Manchester. Also surviving are their three children, Susan (William) Widick, Evansville; Steve (Denise) Farringer, Columbia City; Bruce (Chris) Farringer, Reno, Nev. A brother, Robert Halladay, Ashland, Ky. and a sister Esther DeLand, Chiefland, Fla. Also cherishing the memory of Helen Farringer are five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Helen H. Farringer will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, in Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester. Pastor Karen Eberly and Chaplain Laura Stone will officiate. Visiting with the family will follow the service. Burial will be in the Manchester Church of the Brethren Memorial Gardens.
