Park Board Branches Out For Plans Of Improvement
SYRACUSE — Syracuse Park Board congregated at the community center Monday evening, Feb. 11, to discuss the proposal plans for Laudeman Park.
Pat Brown from SiteScapes, the person who assisted with the park department’s master plan a few years ago, sent Parks Superintendent Chad Jonsson an outline of the planning process and services he could provide to improve the park.
The outline included meeting with the public to gather input and ideas for the park property, developing a plan drawing, reviewing the plan with the public and working on the final version of the plan before presenting it to the park board and the public. The board accepted the plan and agreed with Jonsson that, while all public input is important, they’d like to gather comments from the neighbors of Laudeman Park.
Jonsson provided an invoice for lights in the community center parking lot, which launched the board into brainstorming about the best route to take. While safety is the top priority the board was also looking long term in having new decorative posts installed, similar to what is currently at Lakeside Park.
The price would be $2,208 per light, with Jonsson asking for 10 lights. The board discussed the option of only installing four lights, of going the cheaper route of having a simple post and light or seeking out potential investors to curb the costs. It was eventually decided Jonsson would come back with numbers for other options for the March meeting.
Program Director Darin Lursen reported registration for the upcoming Tinker Bell-themed princess party is open. There will be two sessions Saturday, March 23, with the first session slowly filling up. The party will include snacks, crafts, fairy training and more. The event will be $15 per child and $10 per adult with a limit of two adults per child. To register, stop by the community center.
“Ralph Breaks the Internet” will be showing at the free movie night at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the community center. Bring some chairs or blankets and enjoy the family film with a complementary bag of popcorn.
The S=spring/summer park guide will be available at the end of February at the community center for those wanting to keep up on the Syracuse Parks Department events and activities.
The indoor garage sale will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the community center.
CORRECTION: Parks Superintendent Chad Jonsson referenced the 10 light quote for the price per fixture and only requested four lights.
