Warriors Score Big Road Win At Central
ELKHART – As the gymnastics state tournament rapidly approaches, intersectional matchups may be the best barometer for what’s to come. Wawasee got a glimpse of a possible step forward with a huge 101.35-99.55 win at Elkhart Central Thursday night.
The four-time defending sectional champion Blazers couldn’t hang the big scores as Wawasee used a consistent push from its top three to get the job done.
Elkhart had Rylee Damewood and Ellie Dobson go one-two on vault with scores of 8.9 and 8.7, but Wawasee countered with 8.6s from Jada Parzygnot and Alyssa Minnix.
Minnix would have her best meet of the year, posting the top bars score at 8.5 and her best-ever floor routine at 9.2. Aundreya Wegener also had a big meet for the Lady Warriors, scoring 9.25 on beam and 9.15 on floor and tied Parzygnot for honors in all-around with 34.3s. Parzygnot added 8.85 on both beam and floor.
Mia Echartea led Elkhart with a 33.35 all-around tally.
“We knew it was going to be a close meet because of the scores both teams have been posting all season,” said Wawasee head coach Nika Prather. “The best part, other than coming out as the top team tonight, was Aundreya and Jada tying for first in all-around. We are very proud of the job all of them did.”
Wawasee (3-2) will travel to East Noble Monday for a make-up meet with the Knights.
