G. Wayne Reese
G. Wayne Reese, 96, Sebring, Fla. and formerly of Akron, passed at 5:07 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at Highland Medical Center of Sebring, Fla.
He was born on March 27, 1922, in Fulton County, to Lloyd and Donna (Collins) Reese.
He married on Oct. 8, 1947 in Rochester, to Bernice E. Thompson, she survives.
Mr. Reese was an over-the-road truck driver for 45 years hauling farm equipment.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and among other decorations he was awarded 2 Bronze Stars. He attended the Akron Church of God for many years and was involved in bus ministry. Also more recently he had attended the Athens Community Church. He was known for mowing many yards all over Akron. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing and wintering in Florida, which they have done for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife; sons: Orville (Julie) Reese, Akron; Randy (Roseanna) Reese, Port Richey, Fla. and Akron; a daughter-in-law, Laura Reese, Akron; foster daughters: Teresa Dosh, Albuguergue, N.M.; Barbara Oster, Seattle, Wash.; ten grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; several sisters, a brother, and nine foreign exchange students.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, and two brothers.
A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 10, at Hartzler Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 11, also at the funeral home. Burial will occur at the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rochester, with graveside military rites performed by the Fulton County Honor Guard.
