Raider Diving Duo Punch Tickets To Indy
MISHAWAKA – It was the end of the line for a handful of area divers, but the start of another journey for a Northridge duo.
The Penn Diving Regional was the middle of the three-tiered ladder for the divers, with the state finals the final step this Saturday at IUPUI.
A pair of Northridge freshmen will make their first-ever trip to the finals after Kaitlin Simons and Jiselle Miller went one-two at Penn Tuesday night. Simons posted the top score at 457.40, with Miller right behind at 444.00 to easily lead the field.
South Bend Adams’ Lindsay Gizzi was third at 404.40 and the Penn duo of Bailey Betzer (380.90) and Kayla Ryan (368.00) rounded out the top five.
Claiming the final three spots for the state finals were Katherine Hensell of Adams (359.85), Moira Glowacki of Munster (358.65) and Darian McAdow of Rensselaer Central (344.80).
The diving road came to an end for local divers Brooke Farnham of Concord, Laura Schrock of NorthWood, Isabelle Ahlenius of Culver Academy, Grayson Kilburn of Warsaw and Lydnsey Price of Plymouth, all landing outside the top eight.
Farnham’s run ended in heartbreak, scoring 344.35 to finish just a half-point away from McAdow and Schrock was 11th at 329.75. Kilburn, in her first season of diving for the Tigers, was 19th with a score of 167.65.
