WAWASEE 41, BETHANY CHRISTIAN 35
Wawasee’s boys outscored Bethany 15-7 in the fourth period to win their fifth game of the season on the road Saturday.
Austin Miller scored 13, and Ben Hoffert finished with 12 for the Warriors, who canned 14-of-36 (38.9 percet) shots from the floor on the way to the win. Miller also pulled down six rebounds and passed out three assists, while Ethan Hardy chipped in eight points and Aaron Evans scored six points with six rebounds and four assists at the game, which featured 12 lead changes and five ties.
Bethany was paced by Beck Williams’ 14 points. KeShawn Smith and Jack VonGunten each put up eight points for Bethany.
Wawasee’s JV also won, 52-12.
The Warriors moved to 5-11 with the win. Wawasee will host Northridge in NLC play Tuesday.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY 60, MACONAQUAH 48
Valley won a Three Rivers Conference game opposite Maconaquah at home in Akron Saturday.
Tanner Trippiedi had a great all-around game with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Parkur Dalrymple scored 15, Wes Melanson added nine, and Jalen Shepherd put up eight points. Cam Parker pulled down seven rebounds and added six points for the Vikings, who moved to 9-8 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
Valley will host Wabash Tuesday night.
TRITON 45, CASTON 26
Triton jumped out to an 11-2 lead and never looked back on the way to a Hoosier North Athletic Conference win over Caston Saturday.
Ashton Oviedo finished with 14 points, four assists and two steals, while Beau Hepler scored nine points with three assists and three steals, Keegan Westafer scored eight and Tyler Heckaman added seven for Triton, which scored 21 points off 19 Caston turnovers, all while surrendering only nine turnovers itself.
Hunter Schanlaub scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Comets.
Triton’s JV also won, 50-26.
Cole McKinney scored 10 points, John Gardner chipped in seven, and Bruce Johnson, Hunter McIntyre and Tyson Yates each scored six.
Kade Zeider finished with 17 points to lead the JV Comets.
Triton moves to 6-8. The Trojans will play another HNAC game at LaVille next Friday.
LAKELAND CHRISTIAN 56, SMITH ACADEMY 50
Matthew Helton’s steal and layup in the fourth period sparked an 11-2 run by LCA, and the Cougars beat Smith Academy Saturday.
Landon Twombly poured in 21 points, while Jake Harmon finished with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. Braxton Keller added six rebounds for the Cougars.
The Cougars improved to 6-11. They host Career Academy next Friday.
ANGOLA FRESHMEN 43, WAWASEE 37
Wawasee’s freshmen lost a 43-37 game to visiting Angola Saturday.
Landon Gause put up 18 points to lead the Warrior freshmen. Gavin Hunziker chipped in eight.
Wawasee slipped to 10-5 with the loss.
GRACE WOMEN 79, BETHEL 66
Grace’s women’s basketball team completed a season sweep of rival Bethel Saturday.
The Lady Lancers (14-12, 8-6 Crossroads League) stretched their season-long winning streak to four games and continued to climb the league standings. Grace now sits in a three-way tie for fourth place with four games remaining in the regular season.
Brooke Sugg and Vironnica Drake each topped 20 points in the win. Sugg had 22 points to lead all players, and Drake added 21 points and 10 boards.
The two teams wasted little time getting their offenses in sync; the first quarter alone saw 41 combined points scored.
Sugg was electric for Grace. She scored Grace’s first 11 points over the first four minutes, including a trio of 3-pointers.
The Pilots (10-16, 2-12 CL) managed to keep pace despite Sugg’s outburst. Sugg hit another 3-pointer late in the quarter, her fourth of the period, and Grace led 21-20 after 10 minutes.
Bethel was unable to score for the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, and Grace slowly pulled away for the final 13-point margin of victory.
For the game, Grace shot 44 percent from the floor compared to 37 percent for Bethel. Grace also outrebounded the Pilots by five and forced Bethel into 23 turnovers.
Grace scored 44 of its points in the paint and had 27 points off turnovers.
Sugg’s 22 points came with six assists, three rebounds and three steals; she shot 6-of-13 from beyond the arc.
Drake stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, 10 points, 5 assists and 4 steals.
Kaylie Warble had 13 points and eight boards while shooting 6-of-8 from the floor, Treadway added 12 points and six rebounds, and Kyannah Stull chipped in seven points, four boards, four assists and three steals.
The Lady Lancers are back on the road Wednesday, playing at St. Francis at 6 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.
BETHEL MEN 85, GRACE 58
Grace’s men’s basketball team suffered its worst offensive output of the year in a loss at No. 14 Bethel on Saturday.
The Lancers scored their fewest points of the season, struggling in nearly every offensive category. Grace shot 38 percent from the floor, 19 percent from the 3-point line and 54 percent from the foul line.
Grace averaged 86 points per game entering Saturday’s contest. But the Lancers (12-14, 2-12 Crossroads League) were held under 70 points for just the fourth time this season and under 60 points for the first time.
The Pilots (19-7, 8-6 CL) opened up the game with seven unanswered points, but Grace quickly stormed back. Braxton Linville hit a 3-pointer, and Charlie Warner scored five points to push the Lancers ahead 12-11.
But Grace’s offense hit its first dry spell soon after, allowing Bethel to take control. The Lancers were limited to four points over the span of 7:01, and the Pilots capitalized with a 15-4 run, eventually cruising to the win.
Haden Deaton tallied 17 points and seven rebounds, and Logan Godfrey added 16 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Charlie Warner scored 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting, but no other player for Grace topped four points.
The Lancers remain on the road on Wednesday, playing at St. Francis at 8 p.m.
