Kosciusko
Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
12:25 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, East SR 14, east of South CR 700E, Sidney. Driver: Kelly J. Rietman, 30, West Lewis Street, South Whitley. Rietman told police she was driving her vehicle eastbound on SR 14 when a deer entered the roadway. She told police she was unable to avoid hitting the deer with her vehicle. Damage up to $2,500.
7:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, East US 30, east of East Van Ness Road, Pierceton. Driver: Brianna L. Shaub, 21, West Walter Street, Portland. Shaub told police she was driving her vehicle eastbound on US 30 and was attempting to change lanes in order to pass another vehicle when her vehicle slid on the road surface, causing it to leave the roadway and come to rest in the median. Shaub complained of head pain, but refused transport to a hospital. Damage up to $5,000.
7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, East Armstrong Road and North CR 200E, Warsaw. Driver: Rugelio A. Sustaita, 65, Lake Shore Drive, Leo. Sustaita told police he was driving his vehicle eastbound on Armstrong Road when a deer entered the roadway. He told police he was unable to avoid hitting the deer with his vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
10:29 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, South SR 19, south of West CR 100S, Bourbon. Driver: Shandi M. Green, 30, North Morgan Street, Mentone. Green told police she was driving her vehicle northbound on SR 19 when her vehicle came into contact with a slick patch of road, causing her to lose control of the vehicle. To avoid a utility pole, she attempted to correct her skid, but overcorrected, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and come to rest on its top. Both Funk and her female passenger signed off for medical treatment and also signed off for two children of the passenger who were in the back seat. Damage up to $2,500.
11:06 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, South SR 25, east of South Bruner Road, Palestine. Driver: Brian A. Funk, 35, Ewing Road, Rochester. Funk told police he was driving his vehicle westbound on SR 25 when a deer entered the roadway. He told police he was unable to avoid hitting the deer with his vehicle. Damage up to $10,000.
4:43 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, South Packerton Road, south of East CR 800S, Claypool. Driver: Ryan T. Budd, 26, East Canal Street, Troy, Ohio. Budd told police he was driving his vehicle southbound on South Packerton Road when he lost control of his vehicle on the slick road surface, causing it to leave the roadway and come to rest on its side. Damage up to $5,000.
Warsaw
Officers from the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
7:12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, North Columbia Street, north of West Main Street, Warsaw. Driver: Alicia L. Gordon, 17, East Market Street, Warsaw. Gordon told police she was driving her vehicle and was stopped at the stop sign of Columbia and Main streets, when her vehicle was struck by another vehicle at the intersection. She told police the driver of the other vehicle left the scene of the accident. Damage up to $2,500.
3:35 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, East Sheridan Street and North Bronson Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Jamie M. Miller, 39, Vandeveer Street, Warsaw; Sheryl A. Stabler, 77, East Wilcox Road, Warsaw. Miller told police she was driving her vehicle northbound on Bronson Street and was stopped at the stop sign on Sheridan Street. She said she checked for crossing traffic before attempted to make a turn, but that her visibility was hindered by plastic covering her driver’s side window. She pulled her vehicle into the intersection, causing a collision with Stabler’s vehicle. Damage up to $25,000.
Winona Lake
Officers from the Winona Lake Police Department investigated the following accidents:
10:22 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, South Packerton Road and East Sara Drive, Winona Lake. Drivers: Blake A. Burns, 16, North Lake Placid Drive, Warsaw; Robert D. Myers, 80, East CR 225S, Warsaw. Both drivers told police they were unsuccessful in stopping their vehicles on the slick road surface, causing a collision in the intersection of East Sara Drive and South Packerton Road. Damage up to $2,500.
11:23 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, Kings Highway, Winona Lake. Driver: Lleyton M. Brainard, 18, South CR 675W., Silver Lake. Brainard told police he was driving his vehicle northbound on Kings Highway when he lost control of his vehicle during a turn, causing it to strike a curb. Damage up to $5,000.
