North Webster Woman Arrested For Fraudulently Using Subject’s Debit Card
NORTH WEBSTER — A North Webster woman was arrested after fraudulently using a subject’s debit card.
Amanda Katherine Pavel, 24, 409 W. Huntington St., North Webster, is being charged with fraud, a level 6 felony; and theft, a class A misdemeanor.
On Dec. 26, 2018, an officer with the North Webster Police Department was dispatched to a store regarding a theft complaint. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with a female subject. The female said she was informed that a woman, later identified as Pavel, had attempted to use her debit card to withdraw $40 from her bank account.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, employees at a local business observed Pavel attempt to use the debit card to withdraw $40. Both employees recognized the female to not be the owner of the debit card and denied the withdrawal.
The officer was then informed that the debit card belonging to the female was used at a Freedom Express gas station. The officer observed surveillance footage from the gas station and saw Pavel use the debit card to purchase approximately $10 worth of gas.
On Dec. 28, the female contacted the officer and informed him that she was contacted by Pavel, who told the female that she had her wallet and wanted to return it. The female told the officer that Pavel was at a location returning her wallet. The officer went to the location and spoke with Pavel. During their conversation, Pavel admitted that she attempted to use the female’s debit card to withdraw $40 and also used it to purchase gas without the consent of the card owner.
Pavel was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 21, with a $5,750 surety and cash bond.
