Charges Officially Filed Against Elementary Teacher
WARSAW — Charges have officially been filed against Kristoffer Brady, 38, 13145 N. Eastshore Drive, Syracuse. According to court documents he has been charged with domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
Charges were filed Jan. 15 in Kosciusko Superior Court 2.
Brady is on administrative leave with the Wawasee Community School Corp., from his position as physical education teacher at Syracuse Elementary.
The initial call was received at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, from a female reporting she was thrown from a residence by her neck by a male. Because the woman did not know the address where the incident occurred she asked police to meet her at the intersection of Pickwick and Eastshore drives, Syracuse.
The woman told police she went to a residence where her husband, Kristoffer Brady, was staying to pick up their child to take the child home. She stated the two are separated but still legally married. During the custody exchange, she said she confronted Brady about him having a relationship with another woman. He reportedly became extremely agitated, calling her a name and telling her to get out of his home. He also allegedly told her it was his home and he would do what he wanted. It was at this point he grabbed her around the upper arms and forcefully pushed her into an interior wall. He then released her and grabbed her around the neck with both hands and threw her from the home by her neck. Upon further conversation with police, it was learned she was lifted off the ground when he held her by her neck. She reported a similar incident had occurred in the past, but never reported.
Police did observe marks around the victims neck and upper arms and photographed the markings.
The victim took police to the residence where it occurred, at which time Brady was interviewed by police.
Brady told police his wife had arrived earlier in the evening and became argumentative about recent events. He admitted things had not been going the best between them. He stated she was verbally out of line while speaking to him and asked her to leave, but she reportedly barged back into the home. However, nothing was damaged when she came back into the home, nor was any force used to enter the home.
During the conversation with Brady, he stated he was on the phone with another individual when she came in and she began asking whom he was talking to and allegedly asked he was speaking to a “skank.” Brady was asked how the female left and denied any physical contact between the two. However, he did state he may have put a hand on her back, and stated initially he was not aware he grabbed her arms, then telling police he never touched or threatened her in any way.
Police went back to speak to the victim who stated she picked up the child and put the child in the vehicle before going back to the house to continue their discussion. Brady reportedly told her to come back and talk about it after putting their child in the car.
When reinterviewed, Brady admitted telling his wife to come back to continue the discussion after placing the child in the vehicle. When police asked if he received any injuries, and told him of her physical injuries, Brady stated police could check, but he could not report any injuries. He also stated he could not recall laying hands on her at all, even though she “stepped up into me and became very belligerent.”
Based on the information police had, they placed Brady under arrest on initial charges of strangulation and domestic battery.
