Housing Assistance Continues Even With Government Shut Down
INDIANA — People are asking, will my housing assistance and utility assistance still be paid with the government Shut down? The answer is yes. North Central Indiana Housing administers housing assistance with HUD funding for the city of Warsaw, city of Goshen, Kosciusko County, Marshall County and Fulton County.
They want to assure participating landlords and families that rent checks and utility checks will go out the 1st of the month. HUD has a Contingency Plan in place for the programs that they fund for possible lapse in appropriations that can occur with a government shut down.
The shutdown has 983 of the HUD employees still working on any given day out of 7,497. There are financial management personnel to release to housing authorities HUD-held reserves to fund the Housing Choice Voucher Program. NCIH appreciates the dedication of these federal employees who are at their offices to ensure that families are in safe, affordable and warm housing as the winter season is in full swing.
Housing Authority employees are not federal employees; therefore their agency will continue to be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, re-certifying families, performing the housing inspections, taking new applications for housing assistance and issuing new vouchers.
