Winona Lake Public Works Director Touts Department’s Safety Record
WINONA LAKE — Winona Lake’s Public Works Director Thomas Miller took a few moments Tuesday, Jan. 15, to give his pat on the back for a job well done — and safely done — for a long time.
“At the end of December, our staff had worked 5,032 days without a lost time incident,” Miller told the town’s Board of Trustees during the panel’s first meeting of the year. “That’s over 13 years — 14 years in March. That’s a significant achievement. That’s attention to detail and it’s a safety culture that’s been developed down there. I just thought it was noteworthy and thought it was something that the staff should be recognized for.”
Miller did not mention the nature of the last lost-time incident, which would have occurred in March, 2005.
In other news, the board elected new officers for 2019. With newly-elected board member Jim Lancaster attending his first meeting, the board elected Rick Swaim as president of the board, while Denny Duncan was nominated — and then elected — vice president.
The board approved two resolutions, one for Aim Medical Trust and one for the town’s County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Town Coordinator Craig Allebach announced the Pajama Party Sale at the Village at Winona, set for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.
Allebach also announced appointments to other Winona Lake boards. The appointments for the Winona Lake Redevelopment Commission are Bruce Shaffner, Dennis Daniels, John Elliott, Al Disbro and Alan Alderfer. The appointments for the town’s art commission are Swaim, Joy Lohse, Al Disbro, Amanda Banks, Martha Beeson, Retha Hicks and Terry White.
