Tigers Take Tourney Showdown
WARSAW – Warsaw served notice to Culver Academy it is ready for the postseason with a pair of dual swim wins Tuesday.
The annual measuring stick for both clubs comes less than three weeks ahead of the girls tourney, and a month away from the boys sectional. Both teams serve as perennial team title contenders, specifically on the girls side where the two teams have combined to win the past 10 sectionals. Warsaw’s boys have won the past 10 team titles, but the Eagles have been breathing down their necks in recent years.
On the boys side, Warsaw won the dual 102-81 and had nine of the event winners, including all three relays. On the girls side, Warsaw won seven events en route to a 105-80 victory.
Warsaw’s boys posted a 1:43.95 medley, 1:33.67 200 and 3:37.46 400 relay times and had Alex Cook win two events, taking the 50 free (22.86) and 100 free (50.87).
Michael Ray won the 200 free (1:57.47), Nathan Taylor the butterfly (1:01.22), Zach LaLonde the backstroke (1:02.60) and Grant Knight the breaststroke (1:00.23).
For the Warsaw girls, coming off the Northern Lakes Conference Championships over the weekend, Gracie Willig won both the 200 free (2:09.69) and 500 free (5:51.76). Delaney Wihebrink took the 100 free (56.57), Olivia Herman won the 50 free (26.48) and Leah Reinholt won the backstroke (1:09.12). The medley relay (1:59.33) and 200 relay (1:47.39) were also Tiger toppers.
Warsaw is scheduled to compete again Saturday at LaPorte.
