Destiny Rescue Night, Kammerer HOF Among Grace Notes
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO HOST DESTINY RESCUE NIGHT
Grace’s women’s basketball team will hold a Black Out in support of non-profit organization Destiny Rescue on Wednesday.
The Lady Lancers are asking all fans to participate in the Black Out by wearing black for the Jan. 16 evening game against Indiana Wesleyan at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
The Black Out is to create awareness for child sex trafficking and to raise funds to rescue children through the ministry of Destiny Rescue.
All Crossroads League women’s basketball teams are partnering in the event during the month of January. The goal for each school is to raise $1,500 during the campaign, approximately the amount needed to rescue one child from sex trafficking.
“Black Out” shirts will be sold to fans on game day, and a Destiny Rescue representative will be on site to provide education and information to the teams, campus and community.

KAMMERER SELECTED FOR NCCAA HALL OF FAME
Grace basketball legend Chet Kammerer will be the newest member of the NCCAA Hall of Fame this summer.
Kammerer was announced as part of a four-person class of inductees for 2019 by the NCCAA, joining Keith Connor (Southern Wesleyan), Judy Fox (Houghton) and Brian Patton (Greenville).
Kammerer attended Grace in the 1960s and played four years of basketball for the Lancers. He graduated in 1964 with 2,504 career points, still the most points ever scored in a Lancer uniform.
He began his coaching career in 1965 and went on a stellar 10-year run. He won 183 games, second-most behind Jim Kessler, and helped Grace reach four NCCAA national tournaments.
Kammerer’s coaching career took him to the ranks of Westmont College (Calif.), where he won another 176 games, and eventually into the NBA.
Kammerer has spent the last few decades working as a vice president for the Miami Heat, winning multiple NBA championships during his time.
Kammerer, who was a pioneer in the NCCAA, also served as the NCCAA president from 1973-77. His consistent Christian testimony throughout his career challenged others to become strong followers of Christ.
He will be officially inducted at the Hall of Fame Banquet on May 30, 2019, during the NCCAA Annual Convention in Greenville, S.C. Kammerer was a member of Grace’s inaugural Lancer Hall of Fame in 2008. He was also recently nominated for induction into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
