Winona Lake Council Receives First Two Board Filings
WINONA LAKE — Two candidates — one newcomer and one incumbent, have filed their candidacies for town board of Winona Lake.
Jim Zachary, 206 5th St., Winona Lake, and Heather James, 215 Roy St., Winona Lake, submitted their paperwork on the first filing day to vie for spots on the board in Ward 1 for Zachary and Ward 4 for James.
Zachary has filed for the position currently being held by Tecy Banta, who has not filed and has not publicly stated whether she will seek re-election.
James began her stint on the Winona Lake Town Council after winning the election in a special caucus in January 2017. James assumed the position of Robert Swanson, who moved out of the district.
Zachary has been a Winona Lake resident for 14 years and is a 2000 Warsaw Community High School graduate.
“I have been interested in local government for as long as I can remember, but I’m at a point in my life now where I am able to give back what I have received as a town resident,” he said. “This will be the first time my name has been on any ballot, and it would be a pleasure to serve my favorite town in the county.”
