Steinke, Carroll Fly Past Warriors
HUNTERTOWN – Fort Wayne Carroll continued to assert itself as one of the elite programs in northern Indiana gymnastics, posting a 107.725 to best Wawasee’s 100.825 Thursday evening in the shadows of the Allen County Fairgrounds.
Three different Chargers earned top scores in the meet, and Carroll would ride those to top spots in all five categories. Ashelynn Steinke was tops on vault at 9.45 and beam at 9.325, adding her 8.7 on bars and 9.175 on floor to compile at fantastic 36.85 all-around score. Ella Smith added a 9.4 on floor and Kylie Goetz had an 8.825 on bars to round out the Carroll top marks. Smith finished second in all-around at 35.375.
Wawasee went with just four varsity performers in all of its events. Aundreya Wegener paced the visitors with a pair of third-place lines, a 9.15 on floor and 8.45 on beam. Jada Parzygnot was fourth on vault at 8.8 and beam at 8.375 and Alyssa Minnix came through with an 8.15 for fourth on bars. Talia Kuhl got into the Wawasee scoring with an 8.25 on vault. Parzygnot had the best combined score for Wawasee at 34.175.
Kenady Meerzo scored a 7.45 and Katlin VanFleerin had a 7.55 to highlight junior varsity scores for Wawasee Thursday night. Meerzo also scored a 6.675 on the floor.
Wawasee (0-2) will move its focus to Saturday’s Plymouth Invite.
