Valley Board Changes Meeting Dates, Times
AKRON — The Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation Board of Trustees met for the first time in 2019 and organized its leadership as well as making a significant change to its meeting schedule.
Board President Adam Heckaman was re-elected as the board president. He was nominated by Aaron Zolman and confirmed by unanimous vote. Zolman was nominated and elected vice-president of the board, while board newcomer Tom Bauters was elected secretary. The board also appointed Jessica McFarland as the corporation’s treasurer.
Zolman told the board he wanted to re-organize the board’s meeting schedule. Prior to the meeting, the board met each month in regular session on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. The exceptions to this had been in January and April.
“Possibly the first Monday or the third Monday would be my recommendation and the times, I’d like to look at six,” said Zolman.
“From the financial side of things, we’d need to move it to the third,” said Superintendent Blaine Conley, who added that having the meeting on the first Monday would not allow enough “turnaround time.”
The board approved Zolman’s recommendation and changed it’s meeting, year-round, to the third Monday of the month at 6 p.m. Times and dates for board work sessions have not been set.
The board also approved conflict of interest statements for board members Todd Hoffman, Heckaman and newly-elected Lacey Wise.
Newly-elected members Hoffman, an incumbent, as well as newcomers Bauters and Wise, all received the oath of office from Corporation Deputy Treasurer Melinda Kamp.
The board will meet in regular session at the Burket Educational Center on Jan. 21, beginning at 6 p.m.
