CONCORD BOYS 131, NORTHWOOD 55
Concord and NorthWood wrapped up its Northern Lakes Conference round robin Tuesday evening in Nappanee, the Concord boys finishing off a perfect NLC season while the girls clinched second place all to themselves.
The Concord girls claimed a pair of NorthWood pool records Tuesday, the first a seven-year-old mark in the medley relay. The team of Sophia Trout, Olivia Trout, Jill Dawson and MaKayla Miller posted a 1:54.87, bettering the old mark set of 1:56.09 set by Concord in 2011. The second closed the meet, where the 400 free relay team of Miller, Gabby Sponseller, Olivia Trout and Grace Brenneman smashed the old record of 3:48.42 with a sparkling 3:41.32. The old record, held by Elkhart Central, included Olympic gold medalist Lindsay Benko.
Full results from the meet were not immediately provided.
Concord’s boys finish the 2018-19 NLC round robin at 7-0 and winners of the NLC outright for the first time in over 20 years. The Concord girls finish 6-1 and runner-up to Northridge, the Lady Raiders again perfect at 7-0. NorthWood concluded its dual season 0-7 on the girls side and 1-6 for the boys, its lone win over the weekend against Elkhart Memorial.
Both girls outfits will swim Thursday in the NLC Championship prelims at Concord and come back Saturday for the finals. The boys will prep for its NLC tourney Jan. 24 and 26 at Northridge.
ROCHESTER GIRLS 119, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 49
ROCHESTER BOYS 111, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 51
The swim duals between the two bitter rivals came down to a numbers game, one which Rochester had a clear advantage.
Rochester’s depth carried it to the victories, but Valley had some very competitive frontline swims just a couple weeks out of the Three Rivers Conference Championships.
Brandon Hoffman posted a combination of three wins, taking both the individual medley (2:22.15) and backstroke (1:04.06) and helped the medley relay team joined with Mason Stephen, Dakota Prater and Mitchell Smith to a 2:00.08 victory. Prater came through with a win in the 50 free at 25.11. Stephen had a solid runner-up finish in the breaststroke at 1:12.00.
Olivia Livengood had a highlight swim for the Lady Vikes, posting a winner at 2:37.09 in the IM while Elaina Dishon posted top score in diving at 164.50. Mayde Fear added runner-up spot in both the 50 free (28.80) and backstroke (1:16.24).
Tippecanoe Valley next hosts North Judson Jan. 17 before prepping for the TRC Championships on Jan. 19.
