KOSCIUSKO — The local Women of Steel committee decided to pass on some love this holiday season with a Santa for Seniors event. The older population are sometimes overlooked and for the second year, the committee wanted to help.
Warsaw Meadows Care Center provided a list of ten residents who needed some extra help. Each senior was in need of some essential items that included winter coats, hats, gloves, slippers and warm clothing. The committee was also able to help with some fun items like a tablet, a gift card, a resident’s favorite pop and perfume.
Everything on the list was purchased through donations from the members of the United Steelworkers Local 809. The Women of Steel committee bought and wrapped the presents.
A group traveled to Warsaw Meadows on Christmas Eve to deliver the gifts.
“The residents were so thankful,” said Megan Nichter, Women of Steel committee chair. “It makes your heart feel full when you are able to help someone. There were a few tears but mostly we found big smiles. I don’t think some of the residents even knew we were coming.”
