Heinzman Pleads Guilty To Five Of 15 charges
WARSAW — Darrin Jay Heinzman, 37, who has had addresses of 9523 E. Pixie Parkway, Cromwell and 4409 E. 100S, Pierceton, entered guilty pleas Monday, Dec. 31, to five of the 15 charges in three separate cases. He will be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 4, in Kosciusko Circuit Court. He is currently incarcerated at the Kosciusko County Jail.
Heinzman appeared before Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed to change his plea, which was taken under advisement. Jury trial dates on these three cases, set for mid and late January and early February, were vacated.
Heinzman pleaded guilty to dealing of a narcotic drug, a level 5 felony; dealing methamphetamine, a level 5 felony; neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a level 5 felony; and possession of a narcotic drug, a level 6 felony. All other charges will be dismissed. These charges include: possession of a narcotic drug, a level 6 felony; possession of methamphetamine, level 6 felony; possession of a syringe, level 6 felony; habitual offender; two counts of neglect of a dependent, one a level 5 felony, the other a level 6 felony; dealing methamphetamine, a level 3 felony; dealing a narcotic drug, a level 4 felony; possession of a syringe, level 5 felony; and habitual offender.
The plea agreement calls for two of the charges to run concurrently, with other charges to run consecutive. All charges will run consecutive to two cases where Heinzman has been found to be in violation of probation. He also has agreed to write a clean-up statement prior to acceptance of the plea agreement as to his participation and all co-participants. All evidence in the evidence room in these cases are will be destroyed.
Per the plea agreement, if accepted by Reed, the initial executed portion of the sentence will not exceed nine years. Any additional time ordered by the judge will be suspended and served on probation.
The cases against Heinzman stem from three incidents involving drugs.
On March 31, police responded to an unresponsive female at Warsaw Lodge, however, she died on April 3. Through the investigation, police learned Heinzman had rented the room and was present when the female allegedly injected herself with a mixture of meth and heroin. While he attempted CPR, he refused to allow a third person present to contact emergency personnel and left prior to the arrival of police. He took the drug items with him, hiding them at a laundromat at Valley Forge Apartments where police located the items.
The remaining charges stem from a March 19 incident. On March 19, he was found passed out in a vehicle at 3699 N. 175E, Lot 63, Warsaw. During the investigation it was learned he left a young child unattended and soiled at a Pixie Parkway address. It was estimated the child was left unattended for more than 13 hours. It was also learned through the investigation the child was neglected on two other occasions.
