Kosciusko
Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
5:59 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, North SR 13, south of East CR 150N, Pierceton. Driver: Keith A. Russell, 52, East CR 1000N, Syracuse. Russell told police he was driving his vehicle southbound on SR 13 when a deer entered the roadway. He told police he was unable to avoid hitting the deer with his vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
7:21 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, North SR 15, north of West CR 600N, Warsaw. Drivers: William J. Katip, 66, Deer Trail, Warsaw; Gary D. Hicks, 60, South Whitley Road, South Whitley. Katip told police he was driving his vehicle northbound when a deer entered the roadway. He told police he was unable to avoid hitting the deer with his vehicle and that the collision caused his vehicle to be thrown into the path of Hicks’ vehicle. Damage up to $10,000.
3:18 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, South SR 13, south of East Shoop Road, Pierceton. Driver: Connie F. Jackson, 57, EMS W29A Lane, North Webster. Jackson told police she was driving her vehicle southbound on SR 13 when a deer entered the roadway. She told police she was unable to avoid hitting the deer with her vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
10:54 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, East McKenna Road, east of North CR 475E, North Webster. Driver: Stephen E. Baker, 51, North CR 475E, Leesburg. Police responded to a single vehicle accident and found Baker’s vehicle with severe damage and a damaged utility pole with lines down. Police reported Baker had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes and transported him to Kosciusko Community Hospital for a blood draw. Damage up to $25,000.
9:27 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, South Packerton Road, south of East CR 700S, Claypool. Driver: Tyler C. McNall, 20, North SR 13, North Manchester. McNall told police he was driving his vehicle northbound on Packerton Road when he changed lanes to avoid hitting the car in front of him, which had slowed to turn. He told police his vehicle left the roadway and went into a ditch full of rocks and a culvert. He said his vehicle came off the ground. There was undercarriage damage to the vehicle. Damage up to $1,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
1:49 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, West CR 300N, Warsaw. Drivers: Kristina L. Moore, 39, Hepler Drive, Warsaw; Randal E. Clayton, 59, West Clearwater Drive, Warsaw. Moore and Clayton each told police they were backing their vehicles out of parking spaces and did not see another vehicle backing up, causing the two vehicles to collide. Damage up to $5,000.
10:35 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, US 30, east of Parker Street, Warsaw. Driver: Jason E. Derose, 42, Tamar Trail, Fort Wayne. Derose told police he was driving his vehicle westbound on US 30 when a deer entered the roadway. He told police he was unable to avoid hitting the deer with his vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
4:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, East Market Street, Warsaw. Driver: Lake H. Price, 25, North Tenth Street, Pierceton. Price stated he was driving through the Dollar General parking lot when a female stepped out from between two vehicles into the path of his vehicle. Price’s vehicle struck the pedestrian. The female stated she was walking through the Dollar General parking lot between cars and was on her cellphone when she walked in front of Price’s vehicle. The female pedestrian was struck by the vehicle and landed on her right hip and thigh area. The pedestrian stated she had minimal pain and was seen by medics at the scene. Damage up to $750.
2:10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, East Market Street, Warsaw. A vehicle struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle in a parking lot. The driver of the other vehicle left the scene. Damage up to $10,000.
