Zebras Edge Past Trojans
BOURBON – Rochester built a 10-point third quarter lead and didn’t look back in toppling Triton, 38-30, Saturday night in girls hoops.
A low-scoring first half saw Rochester lead just 15-9 at the break, but scored six of the first eight points of the second half to take a 21-11 lead that Triton couldn’t recover from the rest of the way.
Rochester made just 11 field goals in the game, but were 10-15 from the free throw line. Maci Brown was 6-6 from the stripe and finished with a game-high 18 points. Kaitlin Rogers and Kensey McKee each had seven points and eight rebounds for the Zebras.
Triton’s shooting woes was its doom, going 11-52 from the floor (21 percent). Delanie Groves and Lexia Howstrawser were a frigid 2-28 from the floor, Groves hitting just 1-12 three-point shots. Howstrawser did make 5-6 free throw attempts to give her seven points, and Chelsea Johnson added seven points and eight rebounds.
Triton lost the JV game 30-14 to Rochester.
Triton (4-12) will return to action Jan. 2 at home against Oregon-Davis.
