Beckham Seconds Choice To Butler
WARSAW – Warsaw senior multi-sport standout Remi Beckham has blazed a trail on the course, paths, and in the gymnastics arena entering the last half of her senior year. After announcing her path after high school, the senior leader added she has no plans to rely on the easy dismount or downshift in these final months of her high school career.
Beckham announced her intention and signed a letter of intent to study healthcare and business and compete in track and field at Butler University next year, where she looks to train and compete in the heptathlon for the Bulldog program.
The women’s heptathlon is a two-day event, with contestants running a 100-meter hurdle race, competing in the high jump, long jump, and the 200-meter run on the opening day. Day two is set with the long jump, javelin throw, and the 800-meter run.
Beckham has earned four varsity letters in cross country, and the state finalist has earned three letters (with both seasons still ahead) in gymnastics and track and field. Looking to turn her tassel this spring with 12 varsity letters on her jacket, Beckham is looking forward to the challenges ahead and hopes the leap to heptathlon training is a natural one.
The Tigers cross country squad has captured four Northern Lakes Conference crowns, and the Lady Tiger track and field program has also won conference crowns as well as sectional and regional titles the past three years getting leadership from Beckham.
A member of the 2018 Indiana Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Academic All-State team this past fall, Beckham has earned an 11.3 GPA (12-point scale) through six of her eight semesters at WCHS. She is a member of National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America (state qualifier) and the Key Club.
A standout for her teams and in the classrooms, Beckham has also starred in the community, assisting with the Optimist Club, Strengthening Families, the Warsaw Community Church nursery and the YMCA. She is on track to qualify for the Kosciusko Work Ethic Certificate at the end of the year.
Beckham, who will train with coach Robby Burns and the Lady Bulldogs track and field program, will join her sister, Mia, at Butler. Mia competed for the Bulldogs cross country squad this past fall as a freshman and was a four-year standout in both cross country and track at Warsaw. Butler is a member of the Big East Conference.
