Commissioners reviewed a petition recently presented by Jeff Heffelinger to the Area Plan Commission to vacate a 20-foot platted roadway in the Shore Acres subdivision at Sechrist Lake.
Dan Richard, area plan director, stated that vacating the roadway would affect access to a public beach, pointing out that erosion has already limited beach availability. Richard said the original plat clearly states the roadway is not to be encroached upon by private interests and added that a shed sitting in the roadway is in violation of a county ordinance. Richard said the petitioner is seeking the vacation in lieu of moving the shed. The APC unanimously recommended denial of the petition.
After listening to arguments presented by both Richard and Attorney Steve Snyder, who represents Heffelinger, commissioners voted to deny the request to vacate. Commissioners agreed that the issue regarding the shed should go before the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Commissioners gave approval for Edward Woenker to rezone .689 acres from agricultural to commercial on the west side of SR 13, about a quarter mile south of CR 500N and just south of North Webster in Tippecanoe Township.
