WARSAW PLACES SECOND AT CARROLL INVITE
Warsaw showed well against several of its neighbors to the east with a pair of runner-up finishes at the Fort Wayne Carroll Invite.
Carroll won their own Invite on both sides, the boys a 617-427 topper over Warsaw and the Charger girls a 604-453 triumph over the Lady Tigers.
Warsaw had one standout event and a basket full of top threes.
Grant Knight and Nick Bazzoni went one-two in the breaststroke, Knight far and away the best at 59.35 with Bazzoni holding off Carroll with his 1:04.29. Knight was also third in the individual medley (2:06.58).
Alex Cook was second in the 100 free (51.62) and third in the 50 free (23.13). Cook also helped the 200 free relay and the medley relay to third-place finishes. The Warsaw 400 free relay also finished third.
The Lady Tigers had Delaney Wihebrink post the runner-up time in the backstroke (1:01.56) and help the 200 relay to a fourth-place finish. The 400 free relay was also fourth, as was Carolina Pazos Fernandez in the 500 (5:56.10), Olivia Herman in the 100 free (59.65), Taylor Gunter in the butterfly (1:08.25), and Grace Willig grabbed third in the 200 free (2:10.31).
Warsaw will visit Columbia City Tuesday before taking off the remainder of the calendar year ahead of the push for the Northern Lakes Conference Championships in January.
NORTHRIDGE GIRLS 151, NORTHWOOD 32
NORTHRIDGE BOYS 121, NORTHWOOD 62
Northridge’s girls nearly pulled a perfect meet while the Northridge boys got a tussle from the Panthers.
Northridge’s girls swept top three in all 11 swims, and only Laura Schrock’s runner-up 225.85 score in diving kept Northridge from running perfect in every event.
On the boys side, NorthWood had three event winners. Jason McNeill won the individual medley with a 2:12.33, Tyler Evers took the 50 at 25.40 and NorthWood won diving unopposed, with Caden Jenkins (239.30), Kaleb Eberle and Nick Jones going one through three.
NorthWood’s medley relay (2:16.57) was second as was the 200 free relay (1:49.64), Evers also was second in the 100 free at 1:01.88, and Daniel Hochstetler was third in the 200 free at 2:12.16.
Northridge moves to 5-0 on both sides in the Northern Lakes Conference standings. The Raiders have a monster showdown with Concord Tuesday, the Minutemen 4-0 in the NLC on both sides heading into the meet. NorthWood will host Goshen Tuesday.
