Recycling Depot To Replace Broken Furnace
WARSAW — Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District’s board of trustees is looking at ways to spruce up several satellite recycling stations in the county, and also took action during its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 11, to replace broken equipment in the main recycling depot.
According to Tom Ganser, director for the Kosciusko County Recycling Depot, a crack in one of the depot’s furnaces, located in the warehouse, required the purchase of a new furnace.
“We’re heating with a kerosene heater back there,” he said.
Ganser requested a funds transfer to allow for that purchase, as well as other expenses and requested the money come from the Adult and School Education account. A total funds transfer of $15,400 was requested and approved by the board.
Ganser told the board that to replace the furnace, he took bids from three local distributors and that Collier’s Heating & Air Conditioning turned in the lowest bid.
Collier’s bid was $2,885 for a 75,000 BTU unit. He estimated that the new furnace could be installed “somewhere in the next month.”
Ganser also reported to the board that inspections were done on recycling stations in the northeastern part of the county.
“I’ve been looking at some of the different sites that we talked about,” he said. “Syracuse and North Webster, they both have good lighting. North Webster could use some trees trimmed. The lights are kind of buried in the evergreens there.”
Ganser told the board he was planning to receive quotes to do paving in both locations.
